PC Disposal
At Able IT Logistics Ltd, the proper disposal of your outdated computer equipment is not just a routine business procedure, it is a priority. To pacify the concerns associated with computer disposal, all recycling is done in compliance with UK and European Legal Standards. We take pride in recycling all materials such as batteries, wire, metals, circuit boards, toners, plastic, etc., and guarantee that no equipment will be sent to a landfill.
A computer is made up of plastic, ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals (lead, cadmium, antimony, beryllium, chromium and mercury), electronic boards (gold, palladium, silver and platinum) and glass - in short, materials (many of which are toxic) which don't break down naturally. A standard sized cathode ray tube (CRT) monitor contains more than two kilos of lead - the toxicity of which has been well known for centuries.
IT Equipment Recycling
Unavoidably, there comes a time when any piece of computer equipment has outlived its usefulness. Businesses experiencing a transition due to moving or expanding are likely to dig up some computer relics. Disposing of these items in a lawful, secure, and responsible manner can be a challenge.
PCs and monitors contain lead, mercury, cadmium and other metals deemed hazardous under UK and European Laws that regulate their disposal. In an effort to ensure that the electronics gear doesn't end up in landfills, legislators have introduced IT recycling legislation.
Data Destruction
Data is stored on a computer hard drive as files. The computer also creates an index of files stored on a hard drive. When you delete a file, the links between the index and the file disappear. However, the bits and pieces of the deleted file remain on the hard drive until they are overwritten by other data. As a result, this data that remains can be retrieved with data recovery programs. Therefore to permanently delete data from a hard drive, deleting a file is not sufficient. To truly delete data, the hard drive must be either 'wiped clean' or 'destroyed' as in the video above.
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Electronic waste, e-waste, e-scrap, or Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) describes loosely discarded, surplus, obsolete, broken, electrical or electronic devices. Electronic waste may be defined as all secondary computers, entertainment device electronics, mobile phones, and other items such as television sets and refrigerators.
